Butterfly Cycle (2021)

This piece was written for a undergraduate composition concert at the University of Florida and follows the life cycle of a butterfly with a twist. The very beginning and end of the piece is the nebulous states of before birth and after death. These periods of non-existence are things that have always interested me and I wanted to feel out this interest in “Butterfly Cycle.”

This piece starts with an unmeasured section with only time marks to dictate the tempo with the musicians relying on the conductor for direction.
